Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Typical German fare restaurant. Crowded most times. Food excellent and good value. A little out of the way in location at Sachsen Hauzen but comfortable walk across the Main river."
"The place is located at reachable distance from Frankfurt South station. We went for the first time to taste the famous Green Sauce served with boiled egg and baked potatoes. There is plenty of space to sit either roadside, insite courtyard and inside building spaces. They also serve one of their kind Apple wine which is also worth trying."
"Visited Adolf Wagner, also known as Apfelwein Wagner – Traditionslokal seit 1931, and it took us a moment to realise both names referred to the same place! Once we figured it out, we were glad we went — the experience was great from start to finish. We ordered the Ribs and Sauerkraut, and when it arrived, the “pork chop ribs” turned out to be exactly what we were expecting. It absolutely did not disappoint — incredibly soft, full of flavour, and complemented perfectly by the sauerkraut. We also tried some of the classic Frankfurt dishes, which were just as enjoyable. I also really liked the apple wine here compared to other places — it wasn’t too sour or vinegary. Instead, it was smooth, balanced, and genuinely easy to drink. Service was excellent, too. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted immediately and shown straight to a table despite the busy atmosphere. A wonderful traditional spot with delicious food, great apple wine, and warm service — definitely worth a visit!"
"Sep 25 Revisit Adolf Wagner (Apfelwein) at Frankfurt after 15 years. The atmosphere is hearty, rustic and communal — long wooden benches, lively chatter, a mix of locals and international visitors. We dined here for three consecutive evenings, enjoy the dinner with the locals, great atmosphere."
"One of two great apple wine restaurants right next to each other (besides Gemaltes Haus). Fabulous Rindswurst (beef sausage) with sauerkraut and bread. Excellent apple wine. Friendly and quick service."
"What a cozy traditional German fare restaurant with almost 100 years of history! The food is absolutely delicious, and the portions are just right. Kudos to Szabi for his exemplary customer service skills and personalized recommendations. I will definitely return."
"Delicious traditional food and amazing apple wine! The prices are very reasonable for the quality. Cozy atmosphere with that classic Frankfurt charm. Definitely worth a visit if you want an authentic local experience."
"This restaurant was completely full when we got there around 6pm, luckily there were plenty of seats outside. Food didn’t take too long, and the portions were big enough for 3 people even if we ordered 2 dishes. A great restaurant to experience traditional german food and culture."
